This past Sunday I was lucky enough to join the Instaeatscapetown team to review a new local restaurant for breakfast. We decided to spend our Sunday morning at Scheckter’s Raw in Seapoint, a boutique like restaurant filled with vegan goodness, electrifying tastes and Instagram ready looking food (which tasted better than it looked, I know I was as surprised as you..)
My baby blue eyes spotted a matcha latte, and I have been SEARCHING Cape Town for this, so you can imagine that the excitement of this first restaurant review hit me harder than my first crush. Obviously I had to taste their original latte too, due to my personal quest to sample every coffee shop this beautiful city has to offer. Both lattes were made with almond milk, which when heated is really a guilt free dessert. Yum!
After a few snaps and photos, the time for food was NOW. But we couldn’t decide what to get because really, we wanted it all. So we got it all, but shared it…obviously. We all agreed on the Raw Organic Cacao & Activated Mesquite Granola Jar, Matcha Infused Flapjacks with Seasonal Fruit and Quinoa Porridge with Peanuts and Banana.
The Raw Organic Cacao & Activated Mesquite Granola Jar
A smoothie-like, light consistency with hidden clusters of granola topped with raspberries and banana. A surprisingly filling jar of wholesomeness that pairs perfectly with their homemade almond milk lattes.
Matcha Infused Flapjacks with Strawbs and Nana’s
This was a real favourite of mine, there’s just something so satisfying about this tower of happiness! The flapjacks themselves were thick, fluffy and delicious. If I am to suggest something, don’t be shy with the heaven sauce they give on the side, it transforms the dish entirely!
Quinoa Porridge with Peanuts and Banana
And here is my new favorite winter meal, hands down. I have never had quinoa in a porridge form, so naturally I was slightly cautious on its breakfast appeal. But I was thankfully proven wrong and fell in love at first bite.
So basically breakfast was filled with a whole lot of first but great experiences for my taste buds, and the only let down was that it was all over faster than the click of my iPhone camera.
And just as I said that, we were surprised with their healthy treats menu and this is one way to win a girls heart.
We were presented with what looked like Oreos and a Snickers bar. In my mind if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck then it must be a snickers bar, but these healthy impersonators of two of my favorite guilty pleasures were made with agave, cacao, dates and caramel. Easy on the taste buds and the waistline. It was safe to say that by this point, Scketchers raw had successfully stolen my heart.
And if you think this was the end to this fairy-tale tasting then you would be wrong because we got to try out their debut raw carrot cake muffin (presented by the head chef and owner) with a take a way Golden Milk for the road.
Needless to say, I’ll be seeing you this Sunday for my Snickers Bar and Golden milk because, honestly, I have not stopped thinking about them for the past week.
