• So what do you get when you combine a group of foodies, fitness and fashion lovers? Well you get one heck of a girl-gang! That’s what’s up.


    On the 4th October a group of influencers met on one of Cape Town’s finest summer days, to view Cotton On Body’s Summer range. After a very early start training my clients I was beyond excited to get to my daycation with Cotton On Body, and soon to be local girl-gang.

    Being new to the blogging world I was admittedly a little nervous to be around some of my favorite influences, however a few minutes into the event it was evident that there was no reason to feel this way.


    Once everyone had arrived, and grabbed some of the yummy snacks we headed to the viewing rooms that showcased all their new lines. Let me just say, that leaving girls in a room covered in clothes with the sentence “We will just leave you here to try on the garments and play around”, was possibly the best news since avo’s came back in season.

    Excitement running high, we soon were hustled up stairs to our yoga session that could only be explained as a dream after hours of personal training beforehand.


    So, the iPhones left the room and the golden yoga mat was laid out. It was now our time to unwind, and what better way to do that in some Cotton On Body wear am I right?

    Once we had been instructed through the session, we wrapped up with some more treats and frantically exchanged digits until our next meetup. I left feeling content, comfortable and significantly girl ganged.

  • Last week I treated myself to a juice cleanse at Rootbar, a cozy home away from home health bar in Newlands. I was in my last stages of recovering from months of being injured, and wanted to cleanse both my body and mind from any lingering non-badass vibes.

    I know this sounds weird, how can a bunch of juice sooth your mind? Well for me committing to something out of my comfort zone and allowing my body a break from what my mind thinks it wants instead of what it needs is just one of the many tools to setting yourself back on a clean slate.


    I personally don’t feel one should commit to a cleanse of any sort for the end goal of loosing weight, a cleanse is essential giving your gut a god dam break from all the processed and hard products we unconsciously put into our bodies on a daily basis.

    Okay so enough about my feelings, lets get down to breaking this process down briefly.

    Firstly, what I really admired about Rootbars way of doing a juice cleanses is that they make each batch of juices that morning to give to your FRESH! Now this might not seem like a game changer, but it really is.

    You see most juice bars freeze their products and give them to your after being made days in advanced. There is a lot of discussion whether it makes a difference being flash frozen or not, but in all honesty if you are making them fresh every day, with all the nutrients there for the taking, well then you win.

    Not only where my juices made on the day, they were delivered to my work with cheeky sayings written on my morning EVERYTHING shot. I say everything because the way it turned my face as I swigged the ginger baby down is the only thing I can describe it as. *laughs



    Juice One – Wake up Green

    This is by far my favorite! The perfect combination of cucumber, oats, kale, spinach, oranges, dates and seed mix.

    Juice Two – Sweet Green

    The main refresher and a light mix of flavors. This dark beauty is made with pineapple, pear, kale, lemon, ginger and mint.

    Juice Three – Rehydrate

    This little baby is a meal by herself, which would make sense as your ‘lunch’ time juice, a lovely dense mix of kale, blueberries, almond butter, chia seeds and coconut water.

    Juice Four – Juice all day

    Ima be real with ya’llz, this was the one juice I found hard to stomach.

    See I had my own juice company many moons ago, and I went to hard on the beetroot flavor. So it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, quite literally; however if you are a beet lover, you’ll be pretty dang happy with it.

    Nut Milk – Chewy Chai Cashew & Chocolate Almond Milk

    Over the two days of the cleanse I got to try both flavors of almond milk, both great; but my chocolate fiend self will highly suggest the chocolate over the latter.



    1. The greener the better! This is simple, your green juice cleanse will be made of produce lower in sugar; which will help keep your sugar leaves stable and not have you peeking on that pineapple combo you just gulped down.
    2. Prepare your body! Don’t go and eat five burgers the night before your cleanse in hope you wont feel as hungry over the next few days. This will make something that is already a bit of a mind tester, into something borderline impossible to complete. Three days before your cleanse is the day you should start cutting down on proteins and processed foods, and the day before I would suggest you follow a vegan like eating plan.

  • Nothing in this world touches my soul the way sleeping in on a Sunday morning does. So you can imagine the face I woke up with, knowing that by some awesome luck I was asked to come spend the afternoon at Dash Restaurant & Bar and have my pick at their lunch menu.

    As you walk into the restaurant, you first pass through the Queen Victoria Hotel entrance, which immediately makes you regret not booking yourself into a cushy room the night before, with skyscraper walls and chairs hotter than your mama’s Prada.


    After choosing a table with ‘blogger’ like lighting, we chatted over some tasters of wine, placed our food orders in, sat back and let the next three courses play out like a well-directed theater production. Not even a few sips into my first glass of Sauvignon Blanc, the starters rolled in and my napkin rolled out.

    Side note: My rule with food, is rather get two separate dishes, and split them! This way you get to try more and food envy gets kicked out the window. 



    Strawberry, beetroot and goat cheese salad, rocket and toasted pine nut.
    This is the perfect light dish to awaken your taste buds. An array of sweet and tangy flavors, combined to create a little bowl of happiness.


    Chicken, bacon and corn flatbread drizzled with a Parmesan cream reduction.
    A little on the heavier side, a lot of the yummy side. A flavor packed starter that could easily be mistaken for a main course in size, but still keeps the lightness in its ingredients.

    Lamb burger on a ciabatta burger roll, halloumi, tzatziki, tomato jam and hummus, served with shoe string fries.
    Now due to my tummy leaving room for dessert I only ended up having a bite of this proud bun, but the bite that I did squeeze in was rich, creamy and saucy. It was everything you wanted in a burger and more, because well they had salty fries and what makes a dish come alive more than salted potatoes. Am I right?


    Fish of the day served with sticky soy glazed fish cakes, apple and mustard seed chutney.
    A light dish that is not only kind to the taste buds, but kind on the body as well. A perfect cut of hake, pan fried to perfection and served with a touch of sweetness that is best married with a squeeze of lemon. And as much as I would like to give the hero of the dish being the fish my standing ovation, it was without a doubt the soy glazed fish cakes that stole the show.



    Seasonal fruit lollipop with strawberry mousse and almond granola.
    Now I’m not going to lie to you and say I half expect little wooden kebab sticks with cut out fruit when I ordered this, however I was pleasantly surprised when this godlike bowl appeared on our table. One bite of that sorbet, and you might as well be walking around the streets in Italy.


    Pineapple and sage tarte tatin, beurre noisette ice cream and pot au creme.
    Last but not least, the queen of tarts. In all honesty I don’t even know how to categorize this beauty, she was as light as a croissant yet crumbled like your mom in laws Christmas pudding. The tarty sage goodness transports you into a night with Australian Master chefs, pair that with a good flat white and my dear you have won me over.


    All in all, it was one of my best foodie experiences to date. A perfect day to say the least, which I got to spend with the man in my life. #blessed

We decided to spend our Sunday morning at Scheckter’s Raw in Seapoint, a boutique like restaurant filled with vegan goodness, electrifying tastes and Instagram ready looking food (which tasted better than it looked, I know I was as surprised as you..)
